Default DQ pilots/engineers of the '70s, '80s

Here are some pictures of pilots on my trips in 1977/78. Most of these people worked on the DQ into the '80s. First is Capt. Art 'Zoom Zoom' Zimmer on the wingbridge. Capt. Zimmer had a long career on Corps dredges before coming to the DQ. In those days, most of our pilots had retired from their towboat jobs. Next, seated in the Forward Cabin Lounge at Winona are Capts Carroll 'Rip' Ware and Walter Karnath. Mrs. Karnath is nearer the camera. Capt. Karnath's father was a pilot and his son Dick 'Butch' is/was? pilot on the Queens for many years. Third, you can see the student takes on the characteristics of the mentor. That's Capt. Lexie Palmore steering as Capt. Harry 'Cappy' Louden is relaxing with his pipe.
