Just opened the .org for Thanksgiving morning. Great sketch on Dick Billings rich in information and word pictures. I like postings like this which not only give great information but also insights on the experiences of our friends. Yep, that's how they did business back then and more needs to be told on how the DELTA QUEEN was 'chartered' by go getters like Dick Billings. A lot of the local travel agencies were privately owned then and those folks really worked to represent the many companies for their clients. I'd guess that today the smaller independent charterers are pretty much gone. Heck, today you can phone or click a web site and make just about any reservation you want right from your home: air, resorts, hotels, cruise ships etc. Yet a good agent who knows you has your interest at heart. Times certainly have changed.
