David Morecraft has passed
David Morecraft, the head dean of today's Calliope design and construction passed away on Dec 1, at the age of 57. Services were yesterday, Dec 7 officiated by our Travis. I just found this out today, so wanted to post to the group. David was responsible for many calliope restorations and even made a few from scratch. His work was fabulous, and we have lost a great person. He was always willing to share his knowledge and help others.

Yes, David was certainly a willing teacher of his craft! As an engineer, I learned much of the mechanics of the calliope from him and enjoyed his sense of humor. There was no doubt of David's great talent and passion for his craft!

*Regarding the late David Morecraft*
Steamboating colleagues:
Thanks, David and Dan, for passing the sad word RE: David Morecraft. Didn't know him as closely as some of you but did meet/talk with him several times. Was even driving down the road one day only to have him pass me honking, waving. Age 57 today is young. Anybody have photos or David to possibly post here, on the new 'DELTA QUEEN memories, pre 1990s' or even send to David Tschiggfrie, Editor of our S&D REFLECTOR? This always sad leading into the holidays. I hope Travis did or can play "Holy City" or "Jerusalem" on the calliope.

Dale, if anyone could play those on the Calliope, it would be Travis. I had some pics of Dave and Zach working on the DQ calliope, but haven't found my backup files yet (my hard drive crashed a few months ago).
I don't know what took Dave from us, but I agree, it seems to be way too soon.

Dave's service
Travis conducted the memorial service for Dave, don't know about any calliope playing. Matt Dow came up from New Orleans to pay tribute to their calliope expert and friend. Dave's influence is felt along the river system.

Sympathy to Zack, family and friends. Dave was certainly a special talent and will be missed more than most will ever know. I hope he's playing that big calliope in the sky on that big old steamboat for all our river family and friends who are already there.
