[QUOTE=Ted Davisson;25496]Greetings From Covington , Louisiana !
MPI ( Maritime Pilot Insttute ) located just outside of Covington , Louisiana is now up and running and Full Ahead in every respect !
There have been two recent additions to the Manned Model Facility , located on beautiful Port St. Tamany , that have given the facility a world class and state of the art position in the world of manned model ship handling training facilities !
The first addition to this facility was the construction of the new M/V Samuel Clments , a scaled manned model ship that is approximately 1/25 scale of a 100,000 ton ocean going tanker . This vessel is equiped with both a bow thruster and a stern thruster and replicates all the issues that river pilots have to contend with in an inland and river environment !
The second addition is the new covered floating dock faccility that will assist with the training program .
One other feature that makes this traing program unique is the addition of two model and remote controlled tug boats to assist the manned model ships with docking , undocking , turning and anchoring !
What is also very exciting is the fact that now we are training not only local pilots such as the NOBRA Pilots and Bar Pilots but now also Houston , New York , Rhode Island and Alaska are now sending their pilots to this facility for this very important pilot training program !
If anyone that is interested in this facility and is in the area and would care to visit this training facility please let me know and I will be pleased to give you a personalized tour .
Smooth Sailing ,
Ted Davisson
