Greetings From Covington , La. !
MPI ( Maritime Pilot Institute ) located outside of Covington , La. will soon be launching its newest scaled man model training ship ! This newest addition to the Fleet of two other man model ships will replicate a 100 deadweight ton tanker that will ply the inland waters of a five acre pond . What is unique to this fine vessel is that not only will it be equipped with a bow thruster but also with a stern thruster as well .
MPI also has two scaled remote controlled harbor tugs as well and are used with the docking , undocking and turning exercises that the MPI pilot instructors use in their training programs .
The scaled man model ship project works in conjunction with the world class and state of the art , ship bridge simulator that is located in down town Covington .
MPI has also continued to grow in other ways as well . MPI is now training the Columbia Bar Pilots , the Houston Ship Pilots , the Tampa Bay Pilots , the Louisiana Bar Pilots as well as the New Orleans Baton Rouge Steamship Pilots !
