" Threading The Needle "
Greetings From New Orleans ,
As work continues on the $800 million dollar project to widen the highway deck on the Huey P. Long Bridge , a new phase has begun which has closed the main channel span of the bridge .
Presently , all marine traffic is now transiting under the bridge through the alternate channel span , with a horizontal clearance of only 138 feet . On the surface this may sound like ample room but when there is also equipment in that same span , it adds a whole new diminsion .
Some call it " Threading The Needle " , some call it " Precision Piloting " , but what ever you should so choose to call it , there is very little room for error and needless to say that this is definately a one way passage .
Just another day at the office !
Smooth Sailing !
