New Expansion at Dubuque River Museum Opens

On Saturday, June 26th, the new expansion at the National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium opened to enthusiastic crowds, who have been anticipating the new exhibits and 3D/4D theater addition to the current museum campus. This link will take you to today's story in the Dubuque Telegraph Herald. TH - Top News Article Perhaps the most significant and dramatic exhibit came about only within the last month before opening, as Museum officials tried to determine what would be appropriate at the new 40,000-gallon Gulf of Mexico aquarium tank, in light of the oil spill. The decision was made a few weeks ago to leave the tank empty of fish for the next month, while attaching artificial "oil globs" to its exterior to promote awareness of the impact that this spill has on the Gulf and on all bodies of water feeding into the Gulf, along with its impact on all the people who live along their shores.

If you haven't visited the Museum in the past, you are in for a real treat. And if you have, this new addition to the campus is more than worth another trip to Dubuque.

Hall of Fame

In our paper it said that the Rivers Hall of fame had been moved to this building also. Is it the same display, with the large pictures overhead, items from members displayed, and the biographical info available on a computer?

Yes, Judy, the Rivers Hall of Fame now occupies space in the new building with banners, portraits, artifacts from the inductees, and several touch-screens with computer information on each individual. It is in a much more visible and accessible location than before.
