Former DPC on the move?
True to the phrase, something is always happening on the river! And if memory serves me, Gordon Tucker once told me that their office at Tucker Marine here in Cincinnati is built on what once was one of the DPC towboats.
Today I had a front row seat at crews prepared to re-float the old Tucker office back out into the river. The attached photos, though not great, show the hull on the left and the man made lake they are in the process of filling with riverwater. One might ask why move the hull; we'll at an auction a while back the property and hull were sold to seperate bidders so the hull is either to be moved or cut up as the developer is ready to start developing the land.
The question remains if the hull floats whether the crews plan (or have time) to allow a rise in the Ohio to meet the level in the man made lake or if they plan to dynamite the earthen dam they've created in hopes that the "break" will cause the hull to slide down the hill. This operation reminded me of the photos of the VIRGINIA and the work involved to remove her from her cornfield perch. I'm sure Cap'n Bill knows for sure which DPC this was if that is in fact her history.
I hope to stop down this week and see how their efforts to refloat the hull are going and maybe get some better pictures.
