Columbia River mouth and museum
Now that I'm safely entrenched on the banks of the beautiful UMR, here are a few shots from last week's trip in Oregon. The Columbia River enters the Pacific Ocean just below Astoria. These shots were taken from Fort Stevens State Park, by the South Jetty Observation area. In the first picture you can see the lighthouse across the river at the confluence. In both you can notice the waves created by the force of the great volume of swiftly-flowing river water hitting the ocean. The third shot is the front entrance to the Columbia River Maritime Museum in Astoria. It was taken from the lightship COLUMBIA, which is part of the museum tour. If you compare this shot to one Keith posted from earlier days, it looks like the glassed-in area is an addition. This is where the towboat pilothouse stands, along with the Coast Guard rescue boat and display.
