Default Work Continues On Widening the HPL

Greetings From New Orleans ,
Work continues on widening the Huey P. Long Bridge . It was recently reported by the local New Orleans newspaper , The Times Picayune that the cost for the widening of the Huey P. Long bridge will be a staggering $800 million dollars and this estimate will surely exceed that amount as most estimates do with time delays and over runs and everything else that could come into play with this project . It was also reported by the paper that it would have actually been cheaper to demolish the bridge and then to re-build in the same location . Nonetheless , work continues and despite the expenses it really is an engineering marvel how this work is being completed . Futhermore , to do this work on a number of occassions the river in the vicinity of the bridge , has been closed and as a result has cost the local maritime community millions in lost time and for the domestic and local shippers that have to transit this area . Unfortunately , this aspect of re-building and widening the bridge has never been reported and I would imagine that if these colateral expenses could be brought into the equation , the overall expense of this project would at least double . Go figure !
Smooth Sailing !
Ted Davisson
