Greetings From New Orleans ,
As mentioned in a previous posting , one of the many aspects of piloting ships between New Orleans and Baton Rouge is to observe and enjoy , first hand the many " sights " that line the banks of the river . One other facinating and interesting " sight " is the continueing re-construction of the Huey P. Long Bridge . To put it in a nutshell , the traffic lanes on the Huey P. Long Bridge are being widened and to accomplish this monumental task , the pre existing bridge's piers are also getting widened inorder to support the additional weight that the additional traffic lanes will exert . Therefore , to accomplish this goal the men and women that are doing the actual " grunt work " are putting themselves in harms way and I certainly don't know just what they are getting paid , but I for one , don't think that its enough ! My hat is off to them and I salute them for their tenacity to tackle such a job ! Go Figure .
