" Shipping Up " The Str. Delta Queen !

Greetigs From New Orleans ,
I have it on good authority , from one of the two Pilots that will be taking the Str. Dela Queen to Chattanouga , that many of the former members of the Engine Room crew will be joining the boat this coming week to start the process of lighting up the boilers and preparing the engine for this trip . Its also my understanding that it will be a " bare boat " trip , meaning that there will only be an Engine Room and Pilot House/Deck crews to man the boat as she makes her way up north . I am also told that the DQ will not be going up the Mississippi River , but instead will be crossing the Mississippi Sound to Mobile , Alabama and then up the Tom Bigbe to the Tennessee .There will be the traditional " Roof Captain " on board and I am told that Capt. John Dugger will be doing the honors for this position . It is also my understanding that the boat is now on lease to an interest in the Chatanouga area and will be used as a " Bed & Breakfast " operation . I would like to assume that the
" Good News " in this trip is that the interest that will be leasing the boat will hopfully take better care of the vessel while she is in their hands ! Time will tell !
Smooth Sailing !

I hope some people take photos along the way! I'm going to look at this whole venture in a positive way and try and consider the lease operators as her "babysitter" until she can get underway again. Like you said Ted, I hope they take better care of her while in Chattanooga than just sitting in NOLA. Any ideas as to how the hotel is going to work, will they use her own power, or shore power? Where will heat come from? The logistics involved in making her a hotel will be difficult without modification.

While you were there did you hear any more word on the MQ? Enjoyed hearing you speak in Louisville on Monday. I wanted to introduce myself but you were surrounded by others trying to do the same so I figure we'll meet again sometime.

Anyone who can supply tracking information, please post it here. I would like to go and see her in route or meet her in Chattanooga.

every night, I check to see if there is any progress with " my boat". It seems that every night, my heart sinks, and the tears come. At this point, I would love to see her as a hotel . At least if she was, she would be more appreciated and taken care of. It breaks my heart to read of the precious things being stollen, and her being vandilized while docked in New Orleans. I would rather see her at least being used, than lost. This boat, and all of the steamboats, are our American heritage and history. I am not sure any of us thought they all would be taken off the rivers when the Delta Queen made her last run. It is like a death in a large family. When the " head" of the family dies, it effects the family in such a way that you can almost see the family fall apart right before your eyes. There is always one head of the family, and in this case, it was the Delta Queen. It seems we are watching our "family" fall apart, and it feels almost as if we are powerless to stop it.
I for one, will forever love her, and pray for all of our steamboats to come back to us. Until then, wherever "my Boat" is, I will be on her in my mind. Floating on the Mississippi, in the cool of the evening, watching the sun set, and I am in my Southern Belle hoop skirt sipping a mint julip out of my Mamma's goblet. I will hear her whistle in my mind, and in my heart for as long as I live. And hope, and pray that someday I will be able to be there again...and if I cannot, she will be waiting for me at the pearly gates, to usher me into the river of life. Until we meet again!

Daytime only or ?

What does the scheule look like. Will this be a day and night travel event, or will the DQ tie up at dusk each day.

Does anyone have intermediate timings (estimates at best would help).
