Snow On The Lower !
Greetings From New Orleans ,
For the first time in thirty years , I actually boarded a ship in a BLIZZARD ! I came on board the M/T Iver Expert , at six am this morning , anchored in the White Castle Anchorage ( river mile 192 LMR ) and took her to the Exxon Refinery in Baton Rouge ( river mile 232.2 ). When coming on board the Iver Expert this morning in the heavy rain which soon turned to sleet and then soon turned to snow and then came down in buckets . In fact the snow came down so hard that the ship's radars were shut out and of no use and I actually had to wait for over two hours for daylight before the snow let up well enough for us see . The local weather stations reported that tonight much of south east Louisiana will be in the low to mid 20's and that the bridges and interstates were either closed or would be closing . Also , it was reported that the weather will be so severe that our New Orleans - Baton Rouge Pilot office has suspended all operations of dispatching of pilots . Not Quite another day at the office on the Lower Mississippi River .
Smooth Sailing !
