Default In Memoriam - Mrs. Evelyn Guillaum 1918-2008

Received the sad news yesterday of the passing of Mrs. Evelyn Holman Guillaum, 89, on August 16th. She was the mother of Ted Guillaum, former purser on the DELTA QUEEN and known to many who visit this message board. Mrs. Guillaum lived at Tell City, Indiana and her late husband was a longtime employee of the Tell City Chair Company, which noted steamboat historian Bert Fenn owned and operated for decades.

Mrs. Guillaum was a lovely lady and enjoyed playing bridge, Indiana University basketball games and "chasing steamboats" with Ted. I last visited with her in November, 2005 when we all happened to turn up at The Overlook Restaurant in Leavenworth, Indiana while waiting to take pictures of the Str. NATCHEZ, passing through the Oxbow bends en route downriver to Evansville, during the hurricane relief trip. Mrs. Guillaum still fondly remembered the time I had played "Back Home Again in Indiana" on the DQ calliope for her as we passed through the lock at Cannelton very late one summer night nearly 30 years prior.

Like his mother, Ted is a wonderful and gracious person, still very much a steamboat enthusiast and a very popular "organ grinder" who generously gives of his time to entertain appreciative crowds at the annual festival of the Howard Steamboat Museum.

Heartfelt condolences to Ted, his siblings and their families.
