Default This Years Ramble on the River

Sometimes things just go right and everything falls into to place, well that's the way it was yesterday on the fifth annual RAMBLE ON THE RIVER. Everyone found their way to JIM'S DREAM without a hitch so my directions to the boat must have been OK. We departed the dock a little after 4:30 and cruised down to the upper end of the Jeffboat shipyard where we could see Her Majesty through the haze......it was a HOT, hazy August afternoon...as she came up through the Louisville bridges. We waited for the QUEEN to get up to us and then we journeyed side by side up to Harrods Creek, a distance of about 6 miles. The QUEEN looked beautiful and stately with a good crowd of passengers waving and cheering from her decks. The pilot honored us with a couple of whistle salutes.
I think everyone got the pictures and videos they wanted.
We had 15 diehard DELTA QUEEN fans on the DREAM. Travis brought his keyboard and load speaker so we entertained the QUEEN's passengers with electronic calliope music; much to the delight of the QUEEN's passengers who cheered and applauded after each selection. Travis was releaved at the keyboard by Dave Morecraft, the famous calliope builder, who is no slouch at making a calliope talk.
Pilot Leone did an admirable job keeping the DREAM in the channel, she was aided by BELLE OF LOUISVILLE captain, Pete O'Connell, who said she did such a good job steering he would let her steer the BELLE next time she's aboard.
Capt. Walnut and his charming wife made it down from Rabbit Hash and Keith Baylor was aboard. Mary Bill Bauer fresh from our TWILIGHT trip came along as well.
I believe a good time was had by all. We all hope that we can do exactly the same thing next year.....follow the DELTA QUEEN as she cruises through the Louisville harbor with a fulload of overnight passengers.
