Default Capt. 'Al' Helfrich/BB RIVERBOATS/WW II rocket expert.

Steamboating colleagues:
CINCINNATI POST carries long obit on the passing of Capt. Al Helfrich, age 90.
Al was a pilot for BB/RIVERBOATS in addition to a stint as a ferry-man for Johnny Laughead near old Coney Island. Known as 'Captain Al,' he completed a prior 28 year career as a mechanical engineer for Kirk & Bloom in Cincinnati. No doubt known to a number of posters on this web.

Al's mechanical talent was tapped just after World War II in work with rocket scientists Warner von Braun converting a ****s V2 rocket at White Sands Proving Grounds in New Mexico for space flight. This work led to later success in the United States' moon missions. His son, Gene Helfrich, worked also with Al for BB/RIVERBOATS terming his dad as 'Mr. Fixit.' Preceded in death by his wife, Lois. Survived by sons Gene, Al and six grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 AM today from St. Ignatius Church, Monford Heights. No doubt Cap'n Bill Judd recalls Al well.
