Dq Exemption
I spoke with my First District Cincinnati, Ohio Congressman Steve Chabot and told him about the necessary renewal of SOLAS exemption for the Delta Queen.
He was not aware of the issue, but because of being from Cincinnati, and loving the Delta Queen Steamboat as we all do, he will investigate.
Please contact your representatives because, as I found out, not all of them are aware of the Delta Queens renewal issue.

Do we have a Bill number to support yet? Letters will be much more effective if we have a bill number for which to request support.

No bills pending in Congress
When I last checked the websites of pending legislation in Congress, there was nothing that had the keywords "Delta Queen", "SOLAS", or "Safety of Life at Sea". While we all know about it, I don't think there is any pending legislation. It would be up to a congressman to introduce a bill for an exemption. Without a bill, the previous exemption just expires quietly. So, unless I am confused, we need to be telling our congressmen to support the exemption, but someone needs to actually submit a bill, or amendment to a pending bill, to actually get the exemption going. Maybe Marian's congressman from Cincinnati could get involved, since he was recently awakened to the issue.

You are absolutely right, Darin. If indeed MAL is sincere in wanting to get the exemption renewed, I would think this would be their job. They need to get someone to introduce a bill or attach a rider to an existing bill, then to nudge it along through the process. If we could be informed of the name of the bill and/or the number, we would be much more effective in our pleas to Congress. Right now I'm sure most of them don't know what we're talking about! MAL asked for our help and everyone jumped right on it, because it's so important to us - though it isn't an emergency right now, wouldn't it be best for them to get it moving now? Especially since what was supposed to be a shoo-in last year, is apparently going to run into some opposition this year.
