'Rolling on the River' in May/June AAA's JOURNEYS.
Steamboating colleagues:
The mail deliver deposited today the May/June issue of JOURNEYS, the national AAA magazine which appears as a 'wrap around' issue to the local disivisions of the AAA enterprises. 'Rolling on the River: Mighty Memories of the Mississippi' Pgs. 14-16 features the now new MAJESTIC AMERICAN LINE with accent on the former DELTA QUEEN STEAMBOAT CO. vessels AMERICAN QUEEN & MISSISSIPPI QUEEN with mention of the venerable DELTA QUEEN. The text traces for the reader a history of steamboats dating to 1911 and the usual and customary references to Mark Twain. Photos of the AMERICAN QUEEN done along with pretty younger people with arms around each other staring at the shore or out of their cabin windows. I was exited to learn that the MISSISSIPPI QUEEN is 1,382 feet long.
The best touches of the article features 90 year-old Lina Walter of Ocean City, N.J., who has cruised on the MQ 31 times. She's the kind of lady I'd like to meet in person with her love of fun and warme. Many 'technical' aspects regarding the MQ's fuel, engines, Global Positioning System etc. with a fine photo of her engineer, Tadeusz Kornecki. The article also features sights and destinations to visit in Vicksburgh like Linden Plantation and the McRaven House. Natchez is noted for interest in the last two paragraphs of the article's side bar. The front cover features a photo of the bright red wheel of the DELTA QUEEN and a tow boat.
Check it out.
Cheers,
R. Dale Flick
