Everything cost more now than it did in the 70's
I started decking in 1971 for $16.00 per day. Putting 35 and 40 barge tows together. Cold winters on the Upper with 15 loads making locks in 2 watches.
Gasoline was 69 cents a gallon, chicken was 29 cents a pound. In 1976 I bought a fully loaded Grand Prix, with the 400 engine, moon roof and electric everything, $4,250.00 cash. My new VW Super Beatle in 1973 was $1,950.00 and I surely miss it today.

The cost of health care, housing, food and fuel are way out there from the 70's. I would have slapped someone in the mouth then if they would have told me that in 2005 I would by a Harley that cost more than my first home.

What's a person to do? Either pay or don't Play.
