Chautauqua Lake

Chautauqua Lake is approximately 17 miles long and two miles wide at its greatest width. The maximum depth is about 78 feet. The lake’s name comes from the now-extinct Erie language and it’s not totally clear what it stands for.

From 1828 to 1963 wooden steamboats navigated the waters of Chautauqua Lake, according to a Lake Chautauqua history website. Today the beautiful paddle wheeler replica Chautauqua Belle is offering day excursion on the lake as well as on the Chadakoin River.
