Delta Queen wind-up model

Posted 06-11-2008 at 02:20 AM by Franz Neumeier
Just found at the website of "Poplar Mechanics" magazine: In the Septemer 1962 edition they had a model plan and instructions on how to build your own Delta Queen wind-up model that's propelled by a rubber band. On their website they published a PDF file of this article "Modeling the Delta Queen - Last of the Mississippi River overnight passenger steamboats, this 285 ft. stern-wheeler carries vacationers on leisurely 10 m.p.h. river cruises".

1959 on the DELTA QUEEN

Posted 06-10-2008 at 05:35 PM by Travis Vasconcelos
Hello All,

Today I have for you a look into the not too distant past. In years past the daily newspaper onboard the DELTA QUEEN was much different than what you see aboard her in a more modern era. Things were simpler and a little more home-spun.

I am going to paste to this blog entry a daily paper from the first day of a Kentucky Lake cruise back in 1959. Since my scanner would not accept a legal sized document (I have to work on that) so, I recreated it in a Microsoft

Hello all,

This time I am going to include a little known parody song from the Entertainment Staff (who will go un named) of the MISSISSIPPI QUEEN back in late 1994. It is interesting to reflect on their thoughts here as the new AMERICAN QUEEN was with in 6 months of her first sailings and they were thinking about their futures.

Having been on the last passenger sailing of the MISSISSIPPI QUEEN, I thought this would be a good time to reflect on that experience.

You Must Play That Lonesome Cally: Week of June 1-7

Here's a riddle for you: What do you get when you mix the Circus World Museum with tornado warnings? Answer: a subterranean tour of infinite shelves of authentic circus equipment and memorabilia.

Today’s posting comes amid continued severe thunderstorms here in the Midwest that seem to have been plaguing us for the past few weeks. This past week saw the calliope grantee and his faithful Dad-assistant on a whirlwind tour of the archival hotspots on the Upper Miss: the Murphy Library...

A start of things to come

Posted 06-08-2008 at 05:58 PM by Travis Vasconcelos
Welcome to my attempt at posting a blog on here. My hope is that I will add interesting things from time to time from my archives. Things I hope all will find interesting.

To get things started, I was looking around the internet today and found a video of the history of the BELLE OF LOUISVILLE on the BELLE's website.

Truly this is the best video produced on the history of the boat I have seen. There are alot of pictures with in the video which I have never seen...
