This is the steam packet boat Elizabeth at Fredericktown in 1902. She was 188 feet x 35 x 5.5 and was built at Brownsville ( the hull was built at Belle Vernon ) in 1888 for the Pittsburgh - Elizabeth Pa. trade. This trade died out by 1900, no doubt because the railroad had long by that time went as far upriver as Brownsville. It would be 7 more years till the rails reached any farther south. This made the Ten Mile Creek Country trade above Brownsville worth pursuing....

Delta Queen arrived at Chattanooga

The Delta Queen has arrived at Chattanooga where she'll be serving as a floating hotel, temporarily. Her owners, Ambassadors International Inc. said the leasing contract with the hotel operator Harry Phillips of Chattanooga will be terminated in case the Delta Queen earns another exemption from Congress to allow her back into service as overnight cruise vessel.

Steamboats.org reporter Ed Jones has posted a report from the Delta Queen’s arrival at Chattanooga and also has a lot of pictures from that day...

The Delta Queen Nominated as One of America’s Most Endangered Historic Places

The Delta Queen has been nominated for inclusion on the National Trust for Preservation’s 2009 list of America’s Most Endangered Historic Places. The nomination was submitted today by noted Kentucky preservationist and longtime Trust member Donald E. Clare, Jr.

The Save the Delta Queen Campaign is asking everyone, whether being a member of the Trust or not, to contact the National Trust, by phone, fax, letter, or email to second the Delta Queen's nomination. The campaign's co-leader...

Mississippi Queen memories.............

I returned this past weekend to New Orleans for the first time in over 25 years. I played the typical tourist and took a ride on the steamboat Natchez for a glimpse of the city and to partially re-live the memories of when I worked and lived upon the MQ a lifetime ago. I was shocked and saddened to hear from the narrator of the demise of the MQ and even had sight of her in the distance as she sat broken down at a wharf on the West Bank.
