Delta Queen arrived at Chattanooga

The Delta Queen has arrived at Chattanooga where she'll be serving as a floating hotel, temporarily. Her owners, Ambassadors International Inc. said the leasing contract with the hotel operator Harry Phillips of Chattanooga will be terminated in case the Delta Queen earns another exemption from Congress to allow her back into service as overnight cruise vessel.

The Delta Queen Nominated as One of America’s Most Endangered Historic Places

The Delta Queen has been nominated for inclusion on the National Trust for Preservation’s 2009 list of America’s Most Endangered Historic Places. The nomination was submitted today by noted Kentucky preservationist and longtime Trust member Donald E. Clare, Jr.

Rhine River steamboat Goethe under steam for the last time

On Sunday, October 5, 2008, the steam-operated paddlewheeler GOETHE blew her steam whistle, stopped the engines and cooled down the boiler for the last time in history. The Goethe was the last remaining steamboat on the Rhine River.

Her owner, the Koeln-Duesseldorfer Rheinschiffahrt AG (KD) has decided to remove the 1913 built steam engine and replace them with a modern diesel-hydraulic engine. The Goethe operates out of Koblenz, serving a beautiful and scenic route on the Rhine River...

Delta Queen's Crew Plea to Congress

The crew of the steamboat Delta Queen has produced a video asking Congress to save this National Historic Landmark -- and their jobs. The video is online at Youtube and the DQ's crew is asking everyone to watch the video there, vote for it, leave a comment and forward it to others.

Pennsylvania declares Oct 4 the "Delta Queen Day"

The Pennsylvania House of Representatives yesterday has declared October 4, 2008, as "Delta Queen Day" in Pennsylvania to "honor this unique and quintessentially American treasure". This House Resolution also recognizes the historic and business value of the Delta Queen for Pennsylvania communities along the rivers.

At the same time Senators from Pennsylvania, Arlen Specter and Robert P. Casey, jr., still haven't joined the long list of co-sponsors for the bill S. 3498 in the US Senate...
