Senator Voinovich supports Delta Queen in Senate

Posted 08-03-2008 at 04:31 AM by Franz Neumeier
Senator George Voinovich of Ohio is going to introduce an exemption bill in the Senate shortly after Labor Day.

According to the Save the Delta Queen Campaign Team Sen. Voinovich will make an official announcement soon. In the meantime supporters are calling and e-mailing to ask their Senators to support Voinovich's initiative to gain momentum in the Senate quickly.

The exemption allowing the Delta Quen to run as an overnight passenger vessel expires on November 1, 2008. A stand alone bill in the House of Representatives is being held up by Transportation Committee Chairman James Oberstar. He is claiming the Delta Queen being not save despite the fact that the US Coast Guard has repeatedly issued certificates of inspection, even just a few months ago, testifying the historic steamboat being absolutely save for passenger overnight business on the Mississippi River and its tributaries.
