Delta Queen Painting from New Zealand

Posted 06-08-2008 at 06:50 AM by Franz Neumeier
We've just received an e-mail from New Zealand from which you can read between the lines how stunned people are about the Delta Queen's situation even as far away as New Zealand. What an absurd idea to destroy such an icon with fans all over the world. When I receive e-mails like this it makes the situation to appear even more unreal than it is already.

I'd like to share this e-mail with you:
"Hi, I have just seen your website for saving the Delta Queen river boat, as I dont live in America I really dont know that I can help with the petition. however, the reason I came to hear about this boat was in my quest to find an appealing looking riverboat to paint. searching online I finally decided on the Delta Queen .. since having now painted it a couple of times I thought I would read about its history which is fascinating and I can see is a truely historical American boat just as I was hoping , then I see this boat is in dire need of help, which I would like to help in some way if possible .. So I include with this e-mail a link to my paintings which you are welcome to use in any way for promotion of your campaign to save the Delta Queen, One day I hope to see this boat for myself Best of Luck!!"

Just saw another entry to the steamboats.org online petition from someone in Göteborg, Sweden:
"I have read in the news here that the U.S. Congress wants the Delta Queen to stop operation. I cannot understand why Americans would desire to end the life of such a beautiful part of your country and one that is known around the world. Perhaps it is because your history is so short that you do not recognize what is important or what you should cherish.
Some years ago I was an exchange student near Pittsburgh. One of my fondest memories from taht year was when my host parents took me to see the Delta Queen when she was in town. She is truly a wonder to behold. The range of emotions a piece of machinery can invoke is beyond description. Please save her!"
