A final look at the Delta Queen

A blog post of Sue Henry made me feel very sad this morning: Her picture story 'A final look at a tradition' is telling much more about the feelings of people living along the rivers than words could ever tell. Sue portraits the visit of the Delta Queen at Paducah from the perspective of the people on shore, watching the Delta Queen, wondering whether they'll see her again. The story makes me feel very sad, but it also shows so intensely why we must not loose this wonderful boat. Look at the third picture in that blog posting, the man with the light brown hat - his face and his eyes are telling everything ...
Too many still don't know
That reminds me of one other thing: I met many people along the rivers on our journey along the Ohio River and on the Upper Mississippi River this summer who still didn't know that the Delta Queen is facing the death penalty end of October. Too many people still don't know! We need to change this. Please join me in contacting local newspapers and cable-access news channels urging them to publish stories about the Delta Queen and how people can help saving her.
It's not too late yet, but there is so much more publicity needed to save her. She needs us, she can't speak for herself. If you love the Delta Queen as much as I do, please, it's now really about time to get active and do what ever you can to spread th word, especially to people with no Internet access, i.e. through newspaper reports and local TV stations.
Get out of your rocking chair!
Let's move, let's leave our rocking chairs and fight, let's get active, now!
Of course I know many of you are doing this already. But there is a message to the ones who are waiting for others to save the Delta Queen for them: This will not work! The Delta Queen needs every single helping hand to survive!
