the "Catfish navy" brought boats from inland boat yards from as high as Blair, Nebraska on the Missouri, and even some from the great lakes to the New Orleans area. There are several articles in the Waterways Journal on this subject. Univ of Missouri St Louis has an index. many libraries have copies of the Journal.
I don't remember a book on the subject but there may be chapters in some books. for Exp. Chapter 10 in James Swift's Backing Hard in to River History. covers some of this activiety Carl Jones. Mo river historian. |
