I just finished reading Coalboat Water, and I loved it!! I wasn't sure I would enjoy this one, as I did the other Alan Bates books I have read, because this one is fiction. But like a good teacher, he used an interesting story to teach us what life on the river was like, back in the days of coal stored in wooden barges.

The story is about a young man's first experience working on a towboat delivering coalboats on the Ohio River, back before the Locks and Dams. He is a farm boy who has never been away from home. I enjoyed the things he learned, as well as what I learned from his experience.

So I just thought I'd tell everyone how much I enjoyed it, in case anyone else thought maybe fiction wouldn't be as interesting as facts!
