Just like trolley lines in cities used to partner with amusement parks...usually located at or near the end of the line....ferry companies had picnic grounds. This assured business on weekends and holidays.
In Louisville we had Fontain Ferry amusement park at the end of the Market St. trolley line and the Louisville -Jeffersonville ferry had Fern Grove 14 miles above the city. Down river the Louisville-New Albany ferry had Sugar Grove which was located down in the area the gambling boat is now.
And yes to a previous question on this thread, groups chartered boats to raise money, just like they do when they charter the BELLE 119 years later.
Isn't it surprising that one little ticket brought up so much, to me, interesting history?
