Howard Steamboat Museum Achieves Goal!
In case you haven't heard the good news via "The Sternline Telegraph", WE DID IT! Yes, the Howard Steamboat Museum's two year long, first ever capital campaign fund goal was reached! Thanks to a matching grant from the Ogle Foundation, the museum was challenged to raise $500,000 -- NOT an easy task in these times of economic strife! Owing to the incredible generosity of some 200 organizations and individuals, plus the diligent work of the board, fundraising committee, staff and others, the fund actually exceeded the million dollar mark - by $50,000!
This funding will make it possible to address infrastructure issues of the 115 year old mansion such as adding a state of the art fire detection and suppression system (we hope never to have a repeat of the 1971 fire!), a zoned climate control system to provide central air and heat throughout the three story, 22 room edifice, energy efficient repairs and renovations to windows, etc. Also included will be the stabilization of the laundry house, acquiring storage space for artifacts (MUCH needed!) and a multitude of small projects on the "to do" list!
The projects will begin very soon and are slated to be completed by December, 2011. At this writing, we expect the museum to remain open during the renovations. Come see us!
MANY THANKS to ALL who have made this dream come true! Hallelujah!!!
