What a waste! I remember taking the grand opening tour of the MQ in Cincinnati when it was brand new and touted as being the largest paddlewheeler on the river. I believe it was in 1976. It had the world's largest calliope built by the Davis Calliope Works. I also saw Cincinnati's Riverfront Stadium later known as Cinergy Field rise and fall to be replaced by the lesser Great American Ballpark. Either of these could have survived for longer than 30 years.
I guess they just weren't in style any more. I'm certainly not a believer in a throw away society that seems to have become the norm nowadays. Europe manages to hold on to their landmarks for centuries while integrating them in with the new. We could take a lesson from them.
