'Way back yonder, in about 1960, I was called upon to design a Boatel. It would have been a hotel on a barge. There were so many problems associated with dealing with building codes, fire departments and the Coast Guard, not to mention such technicalities as utility services, that the project died. Every petty official in town thought up obstructions.
A condo afloat would, of course, be possible, but the problems of dealing with floods, ice, access, wind, collision, river stages and tides, pumping sewage ashore, heating, parking, dealing with the EPA, Homeland Security, environmentalists, fire marshal, mayor, aldermen, bankers and other leeches as well as cheaper competition ashore are mind-boggling.
